Blogging For Fun and Profit

By Emily

As I mentioned in my post yesterday, one of the things that I’m doing now that I’m out of work, is getting my blog back in shape.  That’s right – I am blogging for fun and profit. icon smile Blogging For Fun and Profit

Throughout this process, one of the resources that I have found to be very helpful is a website on blogging, built by Yaro Starack.  He has a ton of great information at his site, and his free ebooks and videos are tremendous.  Just yesterday he launched a new ebook on blogging (free, download by registering your email) that details not only the basics of how to set up a blog (choosing your topic, creating AWESOME high-quality content, etc.) but how to incorporate the "X FACTOR" that will make it stand out in today’s crowded "blogosphere."

The Mysterious "IT" that they call the X-Factor is multi-media content – all the pictures, audio, videos, social media, etc. – that most people don’t understand and are intimidated by at least SOME components of.

These Easy Resources Will Help You Start Your Own Blog

If you do not have a blog and want to start blogging, I recommend:

1. Start by watching the 10 short videos here that will walk you through the steps of actually having a blog "go live" on the Internet.

2. Follow up by visiting Yaro’s website and registering to download his first ebook: The Blog Profits Blueprint

Once you have reviewed that Information OR if you consider yourself an "advanced" blogger or already have a blog, then I would:

3. Check out Yaro’s new ebook – Roadmap to Become a Blogger – which reviews the basics and then really dives in to the meat and potatoes of making your blog stand out from the crowd.

This just came out yesterday, but I am going through it and I am really excited by the content.  I have been wanting to incorporate more social media, and just not sure how to do it.  I will maybe do a book review after I have more time to read to the end, but for now… I wanted to give you the heads-up so you could get the scoop.

Diane Kennedy Says Blogs Make a Great Businesses AND Tax Shelters!

This is actually great timing that Yaro is coming out with this program.  Just a few months ago I was reading an article by CPA and Rich Dad Advisor Diane Kennedy talking about blogging.  If you run your blog like a business (not a hobby) according to the IRS, you can deduct all expenses related to the activities described in the blog.

For example, I have a website about dogs where I sell a little book of dog sweater patterns, run google ads and so forth.  It doesn’t take a lot of my time, but it is profitable, and has been since the first year.  Anyway, if you had a dog and a site like this where you reviewed dog toys, dog beds, dog food, etc. you could write off a lot of your dog-related expenses, probably including your cost for maintaining your dog (food, vet bills, etc.) if you regularly incorporated information about him into your business… the pet would be a business asset. You can carry the theme out similarly for businesses revolving around travel, kids’ entertainment, designer shoes, etc.

Blogging can be a great way to turn a passion into a business.  I DO recommend that you check with your CPA about all the income and expense implications, though.

So, again, if you’re looking for more information about blogging – this free ebook is a great resource.  Download it now, or wait for my review in an upcoming post!

Thanks Diane! Great to hear from you. Sounds like we’ll have a lot of costly tax changes coming down the pike for 2009. Makes business-building and tax planning more important than ever.

Take care,

Emily
